I haven’t come across any Oren Tooley in my research but that doesn’t mean he isn’t part of my Tooley family.Isaac Tooley was born October 31, 1791 in Vermont and died August 30, 1881 in Kent County, Michigan. He married Mary Terrell and she was born in Massachusetts May 17, 1801 and died in Kent County, Michigan January 7, 1884.I have found an Isaac Tooley in the Ontario County, New York census for 1820.In 1830, there is an Isaac in Niagara County, New York. These two census records fit my Isaac but there is a record of an Isaac in 1840 in Cattaraugus County, New York but the age is not right. In 1850 and 1855, Isaac is in Orleans County, New York and leaves for Michigan after that.I am not sure whether he took the Canadian route to Michigan. In 1860, he is in Kent County, Michigan where he remains until his death.Isaac and Mary had five children for certain. They were Noah, b. 1827; Franklin, b. 1824; Fanny, b.1835; Clarissa, b. 1830; and Mary, b. 1832.All were born in New York and also came to Kent County, Michigan. There are other Tooleys in the southern part of Michigan and at least one whom I believe may also be Isaac’s son. I had read a query at one time that talked of four Tooley brothers who all came to Michigan through Canada and entered at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. They headed south with one stopping in Charlevoix and the others continuing south. This sounds like a possibility but I haven’t found anything to tie the various Tooleys together. Sorry I can’t be of more help in connecting our Tooleys but they have been very difficult to trace but I keep working on it hoping someday to tie them all together. Please do contact me if any of this ties in with yours or you have any additional questions.
