As you know, your Charles shows up in 1901, listed as a peddler, born in England 24 Nov 1836, emigrated to Canada in 1873. Wife Barbara is much younger, born 20 Sept 1864. Children in 1901 include Mabel (9), Nellie (7), Robert Charles (5) and Jane (2).
In 1911, Charles is not with the family, and the children include Mabel, Nellie, Robert, Jennie, Bertha and baby Laurence, 1 month.
I see they had a baby girl in May 1903 that only lived one day (born on the 3rd, died on the 4th).She wasn't named.
Charles died June 4 1917 in Toronto in the "Hospital for Incurables". He is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetary. It says he had arteriosclerosis and died of a brain haemorrhage.Death listing does not give his parents names (there are blanks through them)
I see from his children's marriage registrations that his full name was Charles Peter Flight (or a variation on those two first names). Nellie married a Gordon J. Lacey in Toronto April 8 1914. Robert Charles married Lillie Campbell Nov 13 1918. Robert Charles Flight died 30 July 1926. And bingo....it says his father Peter Charles Flight was from Surrey, England, and mother Barbara Jack was from Owen Sound Ontario. This doesn't mean that Peter Charles was born in Surrey. It all depends on how the question is asked. It may be he emigrated from Surrey etc.
Robert died at the Toronto Hospital for Consumptives of phthisis pneumonalis, and he's buried in Prospect Cemetary. By the way, he signed up to serve in WWI, and he was some big guy - his papers say he was 6' 4". However he joined up in July 31 1918, so I doubt he went anywhere with the army.
I also find your Charles/Peter in 1881 on the Canadian census, then listed as a grocer, married to Ellen who is given as three years his senior - she is also from England.
Even more interesting....there was a child born to Charles/Peter and first wife Ellen on 6th May 1893 in Toronto. Son's name is Charles Samuel. Wife Ella's surname is given as Rellicca (which I think is actually her middle name Rebecca...see below). Baby died in August 1893. Father's name is given as Peter Charles Flight. Ellen Rebecca seems to have died May 15 1893, from congestion of the lungs, so shortly after her son was born.
And here we go....in the English marriage index, a listing for Peter Charles Flight to Ellen Rebecca Meadows in the third quarter of 1869 in Lambeth District, an d under County Greater London, London, Surrey
This couple seems to be in 1871 living in Plymouth St. Andrew Holy Trinity Parish in Devon. Ellen R. was born in Southwark London England. Peter was born in Exeter Devon (?!).
