Lisa,
Quite a bit has been written by different authors concerning our Tougas. The following are good resources: modern histories of Knox County, Indiana and Wabash County, Illinois.I also understand there is a modern history of Lawrence County, Illinois out but I have not seen it yet.Sources for vital statistics that are good through early 1800s are the Old Cathedral Records of the Catholic Church in Vincennes which have been published in various sources (more detail if you want it), the Morman IGI, and the Indiana State Marriages index online through 1850, and the growing Illinois marriage index on USGENWEB for Illinois.Further, Wabash County, Illinois Lineages book has a section on Tougas dit Laviolette, but it is not complete.A French Canadian gentleman has written two history books on the Tougas from our line back to France including all the other French Canadian Tougas, and they are still available for purchase. However, they are written in French.Interesting note on our line, Brazeau, Cardinal, and quite a few other female lines come into the tree and are fascinating to study.
If you can tell me your line starting with you, and how you get back to Joseph, I'll be able to give you specific info, and contacts with people researching your specific branch. Also you can e mail me.
