Dear Carole,
I may have an Australian lead for you on Isabella Tough born to William and Lillias nee Cullen. She may have married a John Sutherland and given birth to at least 7 children in Victoria between 1853 and 1874. I have been following her second last child, Isabella, born 1861 in Apsley Victoria.
She married my g uncle Alexander McLellan McCalman in 1886 in Melbourne, as Isabella Jane Vickery, as a widow, but the daughter of John Sutherland (grazier) and Isabella Tough. (her oldest sister was Lillias, her second brother William which was the Scottish pattern of naming children).
My g uncle father, Rev Dugald McCalman, was the only Gaelic speaking Presbyterian minister in the region and was the founding minister in 1856 in nearby Naracoorte, but ministering into Victoria and to the Scots in Apsley, Edenhope ete) So they would have grown up together. However, young Isabella committed adultery with an old flame in Adelaide and they divorced in 1890.
I can't trace anything else of Isabella Tough, her other children or her husband yet.
Hope this helps - she had 'done well' in AUstralia.
Best wishes
Janet McC.
