Married Annie Frances Wiggin 23 May 1853 at Boston, MA. She was born 26 Jan 1834 at Stratham, NH, died 22 Dec 1914 at E. Orange, NJ & was the dtr of Ira Weeks Wiggin & Sophia Smith Jewett of Stratham.

He was a civil engineer of New York, associate member of the English Institution of Civil Engineers, graduate of Lawrence Scientific School (HC).
In Sept 1861, at the age of 28, he saved the Great Eastern and the lives of 800 people by the invention of a temporary steering apparatus to take the place of the ship's broken rudder.
