Hi John: Appreciate all of your info. but still unsure of what is fact and/or fiction regards the info. I have seen over the years. There was a large article on Bob Hope several years ago in a national magazine (I have forgotten the source) which gave his name as George Leslie Towns, born Lincolnshire, England. (One would then suspect his fathers name was also Towns). His wifes maiden name has been proven to be Townes. It was also stated that he tried to make a living as a boxer but suffered a devastating knockout in his first pro? fight, and decided then and there to call it quits. He apparently changed his name to Bob Hope shortly after getting in to the entertainment business. His 'handlers' on the web-site decline to comment on his heritage, perhaps fearful of claims of some sort, or who knows why?
I feel that he could provide valuable information on his ancestry and find it very frustrating that I can't seem to get anywhere with this. Am convinced that we are related based on appearance, longevity (many of my relatives get to 99-101), I have two George Leslie Towns in immediate ancestry and am only aware of these two with the exception of Mr. Hope, several of my ancestors were entertainers and actors (acting, singers, tap dancers and 'callers' for dances (late 1800's early 1900's, and thought of themselves as being pretty good boxers. (Boxing was a part of the training of my gt. grandfather and all of his male children, right down to my father).
I appreciate the help and will see if I can enlist geneology assistance in the u.k.
