Hi Don,
Thanks for responding to my query.I've reviewed my notes and think you may be right.I had listed Daniel and Benjamin as the most likely fathers, but there is a discrepancy I have to resolve. You are correct that both Daniel and Benjamin listed sons between the ages of 10 and 15 in 1840.However, Benjamin is not listed with any male children in the 1830 census, unless my copy of the census page is too blurred to read correctly.I had noted, though, that it was statistically possible for James to have been born after the 1830 census was prepared and still be 10 at the time of the 1840 census.
Most important, your response made me think that it is more logical for father and son to have remained in the same county. It's just going to take more detailed research to nail this one down.I go to Athens on a regular basis to do research for my job, so I will try to squeeze in a little family work on my next trip.I'll let you know what I find.
FYI--I'm also researching Clarke and surrounding county families including Hinton, Kidd, Berry, Beasley, Cavin, Williams, Bates, Maxwell, Hale, McLaughlin, House.Do we have any more overlap?
Thanks again,
Jimmie
