Thomas Tozer (Richard-1) was born in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts Bay Colony, on 6 March 1657.He was the eldest son of Richard Tozer and Judith Smith.
The identity of his wife is unknown. They had at least one child:
i Richard b.c. 1679 m. Mercy Beebe
Little if anything is known about Thomas, and it is not entirely certain that he was the father of Richard. It is supposed in some sources that he may have been killed with his father Richard in the Indian attack on their home at Salmon Falls, Maine, in 1675.However, Hubbard in his book Indian Wars, published in 1677, states that "Tozer was presently killed, and his son [Thomas] taken captive but returned after some months restraint;" it was not unusual at this time period for captives to be taken and either held for ransom or sold to the French in Canada.Since this latter source is much more contemporaneous with the event, it is to be given more weight than the others.Further circumstantial evidence that Thomas survived and fathered Richard is that this Richard named his eldest son Thomas.
