My G.G.grandfather, Johann Trageser came here from Alzenau, Bavaria with his family around 1870 - 80.He has two sons, Johann (John) and Peter.My G.Grandfather was Peter.As a teen, Peter worked in Denmark - probably on the shipping docks, to help his family move the the promised land of opportunity: America.
They probably emmigrated to Iowa and then to Gary, South Dakota, where G.Grandfather Peter married Gertude Goepfort, and they had 12 children.I believe my grandfather, Stephen Arthur Trageser was the eldest of 3 sons, the rest being daughters.Peter had a prosperous farm outside the towm of Gary SD.
Stephen married Maud Electra McPeek, also of Gary, daughter of a Dr. James McPeek.Maud was a nurse.They had 4 children. The yougest, my father, Robert Arthur being the youngest of 2 sons.His siblings were Jack E., DeEtte, and Gretchen.
Stephen moved to Cottonwood, MN, where my father was born.Then the family moved to Minneapolis.Stephen was also properous in some sort of manufacturing business, until there was an industrial accident, wherein Stephen had let his insurance lapse, and he was sued and lost everything.
My father grew up "poor", his family living with his mothers spinster aunt, Sarah, Called "Sadie".
My father, Robert Arthur, "Bob" met and married Alvera Vivian Trageser when he was 17 and she was 19, during the great depression, in 1934.I have 2 older brothers, Jack Arthur, b. 1935 in Pittsburgh PA, and Robert William, b. in 1941 in Minneapolis MN.I, Stephen Thomas, was born in Downey, CA, in 1944.
