Just a quick note to add to the good information on Patrick of So Leith's family.Unless he had an unrecorded son Patrick it seems to rule out this family as the source of the Patrick of Prince William County, VA.Your comment on the T that looks like an F in Patrick's signature is very interesting, George, in the light of the F showing up in David's record.
There is a christening date at Kirkwell and St. Ola, Orkneys for this Patrick who married Elspeth Pottinger.
Others in the family are there, and Andro's is 4 Oct 1670.There is also a possible earlier marriage for Andro in the record for the chr. of a David Traill on 5 Oct 1692 with Andro as father and Margaret Spence as mother.(Could this be the schoolboy whose burial was on New Years day 1709?)Or was this a different Andro?
Perhapsyou were including only the 2 generations for your posting, Elsie, but I wondered whether you knew if the Robert chr 4 Nov 1720 so Leith, son of this Robert and Janet Balfour, grew up and became one of the Roberts in the colonies later.
Thanks for the comments, George, and I'll have some questions later. Gail
