Domnick Trant most likely was from Ballymacdoyle which is about 3 miles west of Dingle town, County Kerry, Ireland. There was a Nicholas Trant, a blind harper, living there, who gave his harp to Pierce Ferriter. The Trants first came into Ireland in 1172 AD They came with the Norman invasion and settled first in Caher-a-trant in the parish of Ventry 6 miles west of Dingle. They spread out from there and had posession of almost all the land around and west of Dingle up to and around the 15th-16th century. The most of them had their lands confiscated due to they having supported the Jacobite cause, with the result that they emigrated to the New World(U.S.A,CANADA, MOSERRAT). Today there is not one Trant within 25 to 30 miles of Dingle or west of it.My family was related to them back about 1650 AD butI do not know how exactly. The prominent christian names used by them was Dominick,Thomas Stephen,James, Nicholas,Piers.
