I've just seen your messages on Tredwell, Wythe and Payne. This seems to imply that the railway contractor Tredwells are part of your research.
My cousin and I have done a little work on the Tredwells, with help from a surving Tredwell in Dudley, but have got a bit stuck.
Our great-aunt Rosa Instone married John Tredwell in Birmingham (England, that is). He was son of John William Tredwell born 8.10.1840 and his wife Harriet Bracknell. J.W. claimed to be from Folkestone in Kent. All good so far. Details can be found on allenfamilytree.co.uk via the link from Rosa. The Tredwell family believe they are descended from the Tredwell railway contractors, but we are having difficulty proving the connection. an alternative theory is that they were descended from Kent innkeepers!
Have a good deal of info on: William T, born 1819 Hadzor WOR, wife Martha & 7 children Solomon T, born 1822 Hadzor WOR, wife alice & 1 child (brother of above, died 1859 in India)
Thomas T, born pre 1811, wife Ann Payne & (4?) children (no known link to the above two) John T, born pre 1806, with Thomas & Ann in 1841
All of these travelled around the country a good deal, as might be expected, as evidenced from their locations in census returns and birthplaces of their children.
We are also accumulating details of the contracts on which they worked.
There is also some reference at groups.yahoo.com/group/railwaycanal (e.g. message 521)
