Hi, the TRE prefix itself means homestead.The second part of the name means the homestead of "what".In the case of Treglown, it's Homestead by the hedged pool or h by the water (of some sort).Other examples might be:
Trewavas: Winter Homestead
Trewhella: Homestead by the Stream
Trewern: Homestead by the Marsh
Trestain: Homestead at the tin place
Trelawny:Homestead by the grove
Tregarthen:Homestead with a garden
and on and on....
The PEN prefix means "the end"
The POL means pool
The ROS means heath
Hence the old verse:
