I too am researching the native american links in the Tremaine family.I have some info that places them in upstate NY, Vt. and canada - and the Mohawk connection is there. Also Oneida Nations - which included the Ojibwe as well as other tribal affiliations.I know that they descended from the Tremaines that originally started out as "Scottish/French acadians in Nove Acotia.Several intermarriages took place as it was an honor back then ( 1573-1670's) to share a peaceful existance with the native tribes.Look also for Mikmaq, Narragansette, Abanaki, Penopscot, onandaga, Cayuga and the Oneida Nations which included several tribes. There also seems to be a group of Trmaines that traveled with Surnames - LeBlanc, White, Whiteman,Buchannan, Buck, Trueman -( Man who speaks the Truth), Henry, Quinahs, and several others. Many remained in Canada though many also made their way down through NY, Pa, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa and Nebraska. If you find more on your Katherine please let me know.Mary
