ELIZABETH TREWORGY was the daughter of James Treworgy and his wife, Catherine (sometimes Katherine) Shapleigh of Kingsweare, Devonshire, England.Catherine was the daughter of Alexander Shapleigh, a merchant and trader.Their marriage is given as 16 March 1616.James and Catherine sailed from the port of Dartmouth and appeared in the Province of Mayne some time about 1635.James purchased land in that part of KITTERY, Maine, which later was set off and became, ELIOT.James died in Nova Scotia in 1650, where it is presumed he went in the interests of fishing.His widow, Catherine, married for her second husband, EDWARD HILTON some time after 1654.Catherine died29 May 1676, leaving an ORAL Last Will and Testament which was proved 29 May 1676, and mentions (among others) her daughter, Mary Gilman.The children of James Treworgy and Catherine Shapleigh were:
John who was born in Kingsweare, Devonshire, England. Lucy who was born in Kingsweare and married Humphrey Chadbourne, Sr., who died in 1667 and Lucy (also Lucia) married again to Thomas Wills and then Elias Stileman of Portsmouth NH.
ELIZABETH TREWORGY who married the Honorable JOHN GILMAN of Exeter NH on 3 Jun 1657.They had 16 children born in Exeter (and these children are listed in the book, "History of Exeter") NH.John Gilman was born in Hingham, England in 1624 and he died on 24 July 1708.Elizabeth died 8 September 1719.
Joanna born in England and came to America in 1646 (no explanation why she was originally left behind).She married John Amerideth in 1647.
Samuel born 1628 and maried Dorcas Walton, the family being of Portsmouth NH.
There is another son frequently given as NICHOLAS, but no extant documentation to date confirms that this Nicholas is a son of James and Catherine.This Nicholas lived at Bloody Point.
