Does anyone know who is the father of the THOMAS TRICE who left a will in Orange County, NC dated 24 August 1801 and proved November 1803?
Thomas’s will mentioned (along with his wife, three daughters and six grandchildren) his brother EDWARD TRICE, who qualified as executor in 1803. The Edward Trice who was Thomas’s executor is obviously not the same man as the Edward Trice who died in Orange in 1800 (wife Tabitha, 2 daughters and 6 sons).
Some researchers identify Thomas’s father as JAMES TRICE of Caroline Co., VA who married first Elizabeth? (last name unknown) and second Ruth Booth, the widow of Daniel Booth, before moving from Caroline to Orange Co., NC. However, most Trice researchers identify James's and Elizabeth’s sons as (1) the Edward Trice who died in 1800, (2) Capt. James Trice (1779 will proved 1781), and (3) John Trice, who moved from NC to Georgia by 1785. If that is correct, then James and Elizabeth (or Ruth) cannot also be the parents of Thomas d. 1803 and his brother Edward, who was still alive in 1803 – unless James of Caroline/Orange had TWO sons named Edward. That is possible, but seems unlikely.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I am uncertain how to fit Thomas and his brother Edward into the NC Trice family. Thanks in advance for any help!
