We have two items in our family from our Tuers/Toers branch. One is a flag and one is a ceramic jug.
The flag has 13 stars and stripes with the stars arranged in three rows of 4, 5 and 4 stars. Then name Geo. Toers is imprinted on the edge of the flag that is attached to the hoisting line. While it has been authenticated by a local museum we have no other record of a George Toers.
The jug is about 10" in height and is somewhat crude in its making. It is gray with dark blue decorations. One side has the inscription: William Tuers Oct. 28 1791
and the opposite side (the jug is somewhat rectangular in cross section): Margaret Tuers
The "family story" is that William and Margaret were married on Oct. 28, 1791 and travelled to New Jersey for their honeymoon. A family member or friend they were visiting made the jug for them.
My gg grandfather was a William S. Tuers b abt 1814 and was murdered on Feb 10, 1860. I suspect that William and Margaret might be his parents but I have no proof of such a link.
Any clues, suggestions or potential links would be greatly appreciated.
