I did a little research into this family this morning. George W. Mason was born 6 Sept. 1851, died 7 Apr. 1930. He is buried at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus. Didn't find a grave for his wife, Sarah Hayes; maybe she remarried and is buried there under a different name. They were married in Jennings Co., 11 Mar. 1878.
George's parents were Daniel Mason and Elizabeth Sloan, information from the Garland Brook records. I don't think he was actually born in Iowa, but HE thought he was! His parents married in Greene Co., Indiana, 25 July 1850. They were in Dallas Co., Iowa in 1860, but George and two other boys were all born in Indiana. By 1870, George and his mother and brothers were living in Johnson Co., Indiana. Can't be sure if the father died in Iowa or Indiana, but the youngest child had been born in Indiana about 1868. While George was living with his parents, his birthplace was always reported as Indiana. After he was married, he always claimed he was born in Iowa. Well, he grew up in Iowa, and probably didn't know that he had actually been born before his parents went out there.
Ida Ellen Mason Tull died 15 Sept. 1936. She is also buried at Garland Brook. Benjamin Harrison Mason died 21 Jan. 1943, buried at Daugherty Cemetery in Bartholomew Co., survived by his wife, daughters Katherine and Sara Belle, some step-children, brothers Dan and Charles of Columbus, and brother Sherman and sister Mrs. L.C. Brown, both of Oklahoma. Charles Mason died 1951 and Dan Mason died 1955, both buried at Daugherty also.
