MONSON - Edward J. Tully, 79, died March 20, 2002, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Plainfield, New Jersey December 7, 1922, son of Henry and Lillian (Finnsey) Tully. Edward was a World War II Navy Veteran who received a Purple Heart in Africa and a Silver Star in Europe. He was a volunteer firemen in Mendham, New Jersey from 1954 to 1985, and served as Fire Chief in 1980 and 1981. Edward was a Designer and Methods Mechanic for Mepco Electra for 30 years. He was also a craftsman and wood worker in his own shop. He belonged to the Monson American Legion and the Fire Chief’s Association, and he served as the Willimantic Building Inspector.
Edward is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Norma (Major) Tully of Monson; his children: Sharon Smith of Monroe, Maine; Edward L. Tully of Walnut Creek, California; Marianne Patino of Englewood, New Jersey; Cynthia Tully of Walnut Creek, California; and John Tully of Concord, California. Edward has nine grandchildren. Ed was an active man who loved people, laughter, and most of all his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, March 24, 2002, at the Monson Community Church in Monson, with Rev. Lloyd Rozelle officiating. Burial will be held 11 AM Saturday, August 3, 2002, at the Riverside Cemetery in Willimantic, with Pastor Daryl Witmer officiating
