Hi Jacqui, I know it has been a long time since you posted your message, but today is my first time on the Tunstall site.I live in the USA in Utah, and am descended from Sir Brian Tunstall and his daughter Ann of Thurland Castle in what was then Lancashire and is now Cumbria, I think.I just wanted to add a note of clarification that there is also a town or village of Tunstall about 10 miles NE of Lancaster and about 3 miles S of Kirkby Lonsdale, which is, I believe, the location of the old Thurland Castle where several generations of the family were born and lived.Sir Brian Tunstall was killed in the Battle of Flodden Field in Sept 1513 at the age of about 28, and left a wife and three children. His daughter Ann married a John Middleton from Middleton Hall located about 5 miles N of Kirkby Lonsdale on the A-683 road or highway.Since the earliest Tunstal we know of is Sir William de Tunstal, it seems likely that he and his family were from Normandy.Do you or anyone else know of any de Tunstal's prior to William in 1365 or who came to England with William the Conqueror?Anyway, I guess all I wanted to say is that there is more than one place named Tunstall in England.By the way I had at least 5 ancestors killed in the Battle of Flodden Field . . . the other 4 were Scots. Thanks for listening and replying, Don
