On ancestry.com the "Andrews/Rainey Family Tree" shows the first Tunstill in their line was Robert Tunstill born in Yorkshire England. He married an "unknown" Stokes.
In the book, First Tunstalls of Virginia, there is a paragraph:
"Robert Tunstall, age 30, a blacksmith from Yorkshire, was in 1754 and 1756 a seargeant under Colonel Geoge Washington in the French and Indian Wars, received a land grant for that service, and died 5 Dec 1772."I'mnot sure were the land grant was but patriots of the French and Indian Wars received land in Kentucky and there are Tunstalls in Kentucky.
In the Andrews/Rainey Tree theyhave four children from the Robert Tunstall(Yorkshire)/Stokes marriage:William, Robert, Stokes and Littleberry.I think the William who married Sally Britton (1791) may be correct. However, my ancestors carry the name Stokes, Littleberry, and Merriweather. They were born late 1700-1805 in Henrico and all married in Lunnenburg in the 1820's.
I'm trying to connect the dots between Robert Tunstall (Yorkshire) andthe "Robert, Stokes, Littleberry" shown in the Andrews/Rainey Family Tree. Their tree only details the decedants of William Tunstall and Sally Britton.
