AUBURN — Rachel Rioux, 84, formerly of the Clover Living Center, died early Tuesday morning, July 30, at the Clover Manor Hospice following a brief illness.
She was born in Lewiston Jan. 3, 1918, the daughter of Leo and Maria (Marchand) Turcotte. She was raised in the Lewiston - Auburn area and in New Britain, Conn. She was one of the first to attend St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Lewiston which was under the care of the Grey Nuns (Sisters of Charity of St. Hyacinthe).
She was a beautician by trade who had owned and operated Rachel’s Beauty Shop and Princess Beauty Salon in downtown Lewiston for many years.
She was married to Edouard Champagne and had three children, a daughter, Fernande Champagne, a daughter, Rosemarie and a son, Raymond. She later married Robert Rioux and had two sons, Ronald and Normand Rioux. She spent the last 28 years of her married life with Robert Hamel who predeceased her earlier this year.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, and was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her daughter, Fern Champagne of Lewiston; her son, Normand of Livermore and her son, Ronald of Lisbon Falls; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her infant daughter, Rosemarie; her son, Raymond; and her husbands.
