I'm a member of the Lawrence County Historical Society and thought the Missouri Turks might like to see this item from the Lawrence Chieftain, 24 November 1881 - ""Uncle Jim," an aged colored individual, and in antebelllum days the property of the father of our fellow citizens, the Messrs. Turk, is now a resident of Mt. Vernon. The old man has lost the use of his legs making it impossible for him to do much work.He makes baskets and does such other work as does not require the use of his legs. Not long since Mr. B.K. Turk purchased a house and lot for him here and moved him up from Arkansas, so that his old age might be passed under the eyes of his "ol' Massa's boys," without fear of want."---- No obituary found.Likely buried in the City Cemetery, as is B.K., his wife and son. Asked local Turks about this, no info.Has anyone heard about "Uncle Jim" before?
