will of Whittey Turpin
In the name of God amen, I Whittey Turpin of the county of Somerset and state of Maryland, being aged and infirm, but of a sound mind, memory, and understanding, thanks be to Almighty God, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, hoping to receive the same again at the general resurrection by this might power of God.My body I wish to be decently buried, as to what world estate that God hath been pleased to bless me with after paying my just debts, I dispose of as followeth:
Imprimis:I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife all my estate both real and personal during her natural life and after her decease I give my dwelling plantation unto my daughter Sarah Fountain during her natural life and after her decease I give and bequeath my said dwelling plantation unto my grandson Whittey Fountain, to him and his heirs forever.
Item:I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Fountain, one negro man named James, and one negro woman named Hope, and one named Sarah (with their children, which negros is at this time in the possession of William Fountain), also one bed and furniture including a spotted rugg, called The Virginia Rugg, ten head of sheep, ten head of grown cattle, and a large black chest that stands at the head of the stairs to her and her heirs forever.
Item:I leave and bequeath unto my daughter Peggy Holbrook, after the decease of my wife, all that parcel tract or tracts of land and marsh laying and being on the southern most and eastern most side of Mandkin River, near the mouth of said river called the mine with all its appurtenances thereunto belonging, also all the residue of my estate of every kind whatsoever (not before divided to my daughter Sarah Fountain) to my said daughter Peggy and the heirs of her body forever.
Lastly, I do nominate and appoint my beloved wife, William Fountain and Thomas Holbrook joint executors of this my last will and testament and disannulling all other will or wills heretofore made by me.In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand seal this ninth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred eighty and four.
