I am very interested in the information both of you posted in Messages #491 and #357.I am a descendant of ROBERT DIXON and his wife ALLIE TOOTLE through their daughter CATHERINE DIXON who married Guilford Burney in Washington County,Georgia.
Information on both lines is not easily found and few researchers seem to exist. Thanks to both of you for posting!
Please share more information.I have a good deal of information on CATHERINE DIXON and Guilford Burney as they migrated from Georgia to Florida and then to Pike County, Alabama.
I have assumed that the early DIXON settlers were Quakers; was that also true of the TOOTLE (Tuten) family? The Burney family in Washington County, Georgia were Methodists. Although I have not checked Quaker records in Washington County, Georgia, I have explored some information information regarding the Burneys and the Methodist church in Washington County, Georgia, where I did find reference to them.
[Regarding the DIXON and TOOTLE(Tuten) families possibly being Quaker: It appears no family members from either the DIXON or TOOTLE family were Revolutionary War participants. Could you clarify that?]
My great grandfather,Franklin "Pompy" Burney, the son of CATHERINE DIXON and Guilford Burney migrated from Pike County, Alabama, to Hamilton County, Texas, near the county line of Coryell County, Texas; they was very active in First Baptist Church of Evant, Texas.
I would really, really like to communicate further with both of you, Suzy and Janice!!
