Elder JOHN HENRY HARP was born in Marion County, Kentucky, January 6, l849, and passed away at Lamoni, Iowa, April 7, l923. He was was united in marriage to SUSAN KATHRYN LAMPKINS, January 29, l869, in Perry County, Indiana, who preceded him May l7, l9l0. To this union were born nine children, all of whom survive except HATTIE, who died in infancy, and SENNA, who died at the same time as her mother. Those living are: MARY HASKINS, Skiatook, Oklahoma; MRS. ELIZA RANDALL, Kleinburn, Wyoming; EDWARD HARP, Eagleville, Missouri; MRS. HENRIETTA PRESTON, Rexford, Kansas; MRS. MARONI SHIPPY, Lamoni, Iowa; MRS. RALPH KING and MRS. HUGH ULM, Humeston, Iowa.
He moved with his family and his parents to Lamoni, Iowa, in April, l880, where he made his home until l9l2, when he was married to RUTH A. GIFFORD, of San Antonio, Texas, where they resided until l9l9, going from there to Persall, Texas, returning to Lamoni August 22, l922, where he remained until his death.
He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints by Elder Herbert Scott in October, l878, and held the office of Teacher, Priest, Elder and later was ordained a seventy, laboring in the missionary field about seventeen years, the great part of which was spent in Texas.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, six brothers, one sister, seven children, twenty-five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
