Hi- This may or may not relate, however from what I recall hearing about the Ulm lineage : (This is told from a now deceased relative)
My great grandfather was Bruno Hugo Ulm...born in germany and married to a woman named Bernardina Rinscheid. together they had 11 children, 3 boys, 8 girls. the boys were Anthony, Richard and William. The girls names elude me for the most part, I do recall a Hattie, Hildagarde, and??
Anyhow, supposedly in Germany in the later 1800's, there were 4 Ulm brothers who were sent to four different countries by their own father (name unknown). One went to the U.S. (Bruno Ulm), another to Australia, , another to England and the other to France.
I remember hearing that charles ulm the Aviator was a brother to Bruno Ulm, my great Grandfather.
Interestingly, Bruno Ulm was an artist who found employment in California as an artist for backdrops on movie sets in the 1930'. .He also had a fine private collection of his own paintings which were housed in a distant cousins home until the San Diego wild fires of 2003, thus destroying not only their home but Bruno's artwork as well.
I know that 3 of the the Ulm brothers out of the 11 children were born in Pennsylvania and had all moved to California by the 1930's. Bruno and Bernardina followed them to California as well. I'm uncertin where or who the 8 daughters of Bruno and Bernardina wound up living..I beleive Hattie lived in California too.
Another family history note regarding the Bruno Ulm descendants:in the 1950's or so, a large family fight was wrought over Bruno's artwork after Bruno died...My Dad remembers it was quite an ordeal and no-one wanted to speak to one another after the "fight" over Bruno's artwork, and to make a long story short no-one communicated much if at all after the fight.Strangely enough though, my Dad was in attendance at an aircraft club convention about 20 years ago or so, and a speaker with the name of Ulm happened to be there--it was my Dads long lost Cousin Allen Ulm, also an aviation buff!
Allen was the son of Anthony Ulm, and my father Howard is the son of William Ulm......(Anthony, William and Richard were the 3 brothers who fought over Brunos artwork, along with some if not all of the sisters).
I know that Williams son Robert Ulm was a very fine artist...
And from what I understand Allen's son is a commercial jet pilot....
Perhaps Aviation and Artistry are in the genes! If this helps or rings a bell with anyone, please feel free to let me know! Thanks, Janet Ulm
