Umlandt ?
Hi everyone,
Are Umland & Umlandt two separate surnames?I noticed Susan Bork's message from 2002/2003 and Susan mentions UMLANDT.
I have been researching this woman for some years... Rebecca UMLANDT nee Oldenburg.
I have no idea where my Rebecca Oldenburg was born or where she died, though I do have a photo of her grave.
Rebecca Umlandt nee Oldenburg
born: 14 Sep 1840
died: 13 Mar 1916
There is nothing in the photo to identify the graveyard.
Obviously Rebecca married a Mr Umlandt.
I suspect Rebecca Oldenburg may have been born in Europe, as she is connected to the following family...
Julius Christian ULAND married Henrietta Elizabeth FRANSISCO or COYLE abt 1885, possibly in Germany or Belgium.
Julius & Henrietta ULAND had two children that I know of:
1. William Peter Uland - c.1886 Antwerp, Belgium
2. Frances Uland (female) - c.1888
William P Uland settled in Australia.
Frances was a nurse and last heard of during WW2 in Germany c.1916
I'm also wondering in Umlandt was changed to Uland at some stage.
On the back of the grave photo it says 'Grandmother's grave'.
However, who's grandmother, William's Julius' or Henrietta's?
Any suggestions would be most welcomed.
I've scoured the internet and searched all the usual gene websites, and can't find anyone researching Rebecca.
Sherrie Blackman.
