Realizing that your post was in 2000, you may not readily be informed of this message but in case you or anyone else checks on this later, I wanted to write to mention that there is a strong likelyhood that you are descended from UNDERWOOD family group out of Nash County, North Carolina. At this moment, I am not working off my main files in my main computer so I cannot look up what information that I do have regarding other descendants in my family group but my maternal 3rd great grandfather was William HATTEN who was born January 01, 1800 in Tar River, Nash County, North Carolina, whose 1st wife was my 3rd great grandmother, Frances Lucretia "Patsy" LOTT and his 2nd wife was Anna "Annie" NETTLES whom he married in Winn Parish, Louisiana after the death of Frances in 1840 in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana.William HATTEN's parents were Lewis Lamkin HATTEN, born:February 07, 1776 in Northumberland Co., Virginia, died:aft. 1833 in Greene Co., MS, and wife, Sarah "Sally" UNDERWOOD, born:abt. 1785 in Nash County, NC, who was the daughter of Jacob UNDERWOOD and wife, Hannah CLARK(E,) daughter of Robert CLARK(E.)Jacob UNDERWOOD may have been part Chickasaw Indian but still not certain of this but he was more distantly related to a Chickasaw Indian Chief UNDERWOOD.
Jacob UNDERWOOD was the son of Thomas UNDERWOOD, III, son of Thomas UNDERWOOD, II/Jr., son of Thomas UNDERWOOD, I/Sr..In addition, there is what possibly may be a connection with the VERVETTE middle name of your Joanna Vervette UNDERWOOD either maybe as a maiden name or a middle name after a family name as there was, also, a VIVERETTE/VIVRETTE family that married into the DEW and HATTEN and other connecting families.
You can find more UNDERWOOD family information online at:
My guess would be that your Joanna is descended from this UNDERWOOD group somehow.
The aforementioned Lewis Lamkin HATTEN's 1st wife was Sarah "Sally" UNDERWOOD but after her death, Lewis Lamkin HATTEN married 2nd wife whose name is seen many times asFrances "Fannie" VIVERETTE whose mother was a DEW and whose 1st husband was a DEW though many have said that she was of the maiden name DEW.There has been a good deal of confusion as Fannie's 1st husband was (Captain) William DEW and it was his mother, Elizabeth HICKMAN, whose 2nd marriage was to a man named VIVERETTE confusing the name for Frances "Fannie"...I have her maiden name in my main files...oh, wait, I remember...it was DUAJACKEY, (also other spellings.)Anyway, it was Frances' mother that was, also, a DEW and distantly related to Frances' husband, William DEW.I believe that the 1st husband of Elizabeth HICKMAN and the father of (Captain) William DEW was Abraham DEW, Sr. and that her 2nd husband Thomas VIVERETTE, (aka VIVERETT/VIVRET/etc.,) according to some born in Ireland in abt. 1750 but I think that I have more information on him in my files. There is some VIVERETTE information online at www.angelfire.com/tx3/viverette/noteslinks.htmlAnd, in addition, to information about Thomas VIVERETTE there is information on many others of his family group, as well.
Hoping that this helps.Looking forward to hearing from you.You may leave me a note online or reply directly to me on aol.com with the address of BellindaMBarnett
