hello all, My Name is Ben Upson and i live in London and am a direct decendant on my mothers side from the original french upsons (i.e no marriage just blood all the way),
I spoke to My grandfather about our family history and yes we did come from suffolk. We had some sort of horse and cart service, like an early taxi service. We managed to set it up because we were wealthy.. VERY WEALTHY.This is so because before suffolk we came from france. The name UPSON is a dirvative of our earlier french name.. Now i cant remember the exact pronunciation, but it sounds something like De upechion << the ch sounding like sh.
Soon after my I spoke to my Grandfather, my mum got a job at the Royal National Archive in Kew, england. She found out that We were banished from france for being protestant and that we were wealthy because we were part of the french aristocracy... that is as far as i have got.I also know that Upson is the original name and that other names like upstone and upton are dirivatives from the same name.
