Dear Jeanette Thanks for this. My posting was nearly 6 years ago and unfortunately my Jessie remains elusive, which fora great grandmother is unfortunate. I have noticed the James and Murdo entries on IGI previously.
Since my original posting I have obtained Jessie's marriage certificate - 1867, where her parents are given as James Urquhart and Jessie Henderson, both deceased at the time of the marriage. I then obtained her 1909 death certificate, where her son registered the death and stated that her parents were William Urquhart and Ann Henderson.
I tend to ignore the death certificate as her parents had died before the marriage hence her son would have had no contact.
I just cannot find a birth, which by census age would have been 1845. There is a Jessie in the right place in the 1851 census but with parents Robert Urquhart and Elizabeth Keddie. All other censuses are my lady.
I suspect that they were non-conformist people that is why I can't find a birth from traditional church sources. My other theory is that her parents died whilst Jessie was very young , hence the above Robert and Elizabeth may have unofficially adopted her.
Hence, the hunt goes on and thank you for your interest. regards John
