Samuel LeCompte and Clare Raleigh operated a summer resort on the Potomac River about five miles from Point Lookout on Calvert Bay.Later, their daughter Mabel (1880-1959) and her husband, William E. Curley, originally of Chestertown, Maryland ran the hotel, accomodating many physicians and dentists and their families from Washington, D.C. during the summer months.
Our village mill -- S.J. Rawleigh owner -- is in operation.The meal is fine and not scorched.No sawing has been done yet.

11/15/1898 - Samuel S. Raleigh - Postmaster - Wynne Post Office (Route 252) - Wynne Peninsula - Sam Raleigh built a wharf there in 1896.

Doctors of St. Mary's County -- Fresco -- states that Thomas Blackiston graduated from the University of Maryland in 1889; marriage license obtained in Prince George's County, Maryland, but marriage performed in St. Mary's County, Maryland; after the death of his wife and child (within two months) he joined the U.S. Army and left St. Mary's County, Maryland.
Born in Mineral County, West Virginia.Dr. Thomas C. Blakistone received his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore in 1889.
St. Mary's Beacon of January 24, 1889 carried a notice that Dr. Blakistone and Dr. Dent are busy with the epidemic of dysentary and typhoid fever in the St. Inigoes district.
Within two months after the death of his wife and child, Dr. Blakistone left St. Mary's County to accept a commission as Assistant Surgeon in the U.S. Army.

James Raleigh was called Captain Jim by all who knew him because of his license to pilot ships.For many years, he was Captain of a ship on the Old Three Rivers Boat Line carrying freight and passengers between Washington, Baltimore, and Norfolk.Earlier, he had worked on boats along the south Atlantic coast.
In 1905, he joined the D.C. Fire Department and took the D.C. fireboat "Firefighter" on its first run.He then became the captain of that first fireboat in D.C. and retired in 1938.
