I recently came into possesion of a document dated 1702 which seems to be an agreement to do with property in Ingate Beccles between John Utting (yeoman) of Kirstead Norfolk, Mary Utting of Beccles and John Simpson (linen weaver)of Beccles. It seems that Mary was about to marry John Simpson. I am not sure of the relationship between John and Mary Utting. My son has deciphered the document but it is still hard to understand its meaning as it is written in legal language! Mary's mother is Esther and she is married to Thomas Blowers, it seems the property in Ingate belongs to her. I looked on www.foxearth.org.uk website re the property and found the following infomation in 'The Streets of Beccles' Ingate part 1 Ingate 33& 35 It seems John and Mary Simpson were living here in 1729 but in 1730 Mary marries John Edwards so John must have died. Mary dies in 1783 (if she was 18 when she married in 1702 or thereabouts this would make her almost 100? may be a mistake here somewhere!)It seems she the left the land to her only daughter Esther who was married to William Winter. It's possible that the property passes further down the female line as in 1824 it is owened by Mary Hammond and Sarah Carter daughters of Esther Wrench who could be Esther Winter remarried? Hope this is of some help to anyone hunting for Uttings!
