Since the last post on this subject, I have obtained a copy of the Widow's Pension file for Joseph Sindledecker for his service in the Union Army in the civil war in Co. D, 197th Ohio Infantry. Nancy J. Sindledecker applied for a widow's pension in 1890 (applications filed in July and August of 1890). Her applications reveal: Her maiden name was Nancy J. Nixon. She was married twice. Her first husband was John Ensley, who she married on November 17, 1870 in Monroe County, Ohio. Ensley died December 9, 1875. Nancy married Joseph Sindledecker July 13, 1879 in Monroe County, Ohio. Joseph Sindledecker died January 18, 1886, in Conaway, West Virginia. The same file documents the death of the widow herself. Cora B. Vanaman in February of 1911 filed an application for reimbusement from the Bureau of Pensions for expenses of Nancy's last illness and burial, explicitly identifying herself as Nancy's daughter. Nancy J. Sindledecker died December 1, 1910, in Shadyside, Belmont County, Ohio, and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Bellaire, Ohio. I think this clearly shows that Cora Belle Nixon Vanaman's mother was Nancy J. Nixon Ensley Sindledecker. I would still appreciate information as to Cora's father.
