Cornelius Vandeburgh (1790-1871) PA., N.J., N.Y., OH, IL
I am interested in the family of my great, great, great, great grandfather, Cornelius Vandeburgh (1790-1871). In the census of 1850, 1860 and 1870 he indicated that he was born in Pennsylvania. In a bio of his youngest son, Hiram Vandeburgh, he indicated that his father was born in New Jersey a son of John Vandeburgh. Family records indicate that Cornelius was married in 1808 to Nancy Swartwood (1791-1833) and they made their home in New York (Chemung Co.) until about 1830 when they settled in Lorain Co., Ohio. They had a family of nine children and Nancy died in Ohio. Cornelius was married in 1835 to Julia Davis (1804-1883) and they had two daughters. In 1845, he moved his family to Illinois settling in DeKalb Co. where he remained until his death in 1871. I am descended from his daughter, Cyntha Vandeburgh (1810-1870) who was Mrs. James Dimon.
