Susan E. BREWSTER was born 7 March, 1832 in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY. Her parents were Abraham Brewster and Amelia VAN DER COOK. Amelia was a daughter of Henry S. VanDerCook and Margery LESTER. Susan was technically not orphaned. She lost her mother on 20 February, 1834, but her father lived until 1876. His second and third wives were sisters Ruth Delia VanDerCook and Hannah Adeline VanDerCook, daughters of Gilbert VanDerCook and his first wife, Hannah PERRY. I have no issue listed for either of those marriages. Your Susan's full siblings were: Simon Henry Brewster, born 20 February, 1828; Hannah Maria Brewster, born 19 February, 1830 and William D. Brewster, born 5 February, 1833.Yes, Eliza VanDerCook, sister to Amelia, did marry Edwin Nathaniel COOKE 5 September, 1835 in Oxford, Butler Co., OH. Susan's husband, Charles P. Cooke, was actually her uncle Edwin's much younger brother! Sons of Asaph Cooke, Jr. and Mary "Polly" STEWART of Granville, Washington Co., NY, Edwin Nathaniel Cooke and Charles P. Cooke so far have not beenproven to be VanDerCook family descendants! With the family name being spelled with an "e" on the end, they were most likely of English (not Dutch) descent. Alas, marital names changes are not the type I am seeking. What I am actually looking for are either proven or provable male VanDerCook family descendants who shortened the family name to COOK.
