A Thomas Jefferson Vanderslice was born about 1801 in or near Philadelphia. He may have lived in Kentucky prior to coming to Louisiana in the earlt 1840's. The 1850 Census of Plaquemine Parish La. list him as a Branch Pilot at Balize at the mouth of the Mississippi River. His wife was named Elizabeth and was a native of Plaquemine. She was probably Thomas's second wife ane was 20 years younger then he. The known children of this Thomas Vanderslice were: Daniel T b.1842 d.Jan.20, 1865 at Mobile; Catherine b.Jan. 1845 d. Aug. 9, 1845 Balize. Cass b. abt. 1848. Blance b. abt 1850, d. Nov. 4, 1861Thomas J. Vanderslice had a son, probably by a unknown first wife, names Thomas Vanderslice. He as 22 years old in 1850. The obituaries of some of the children in in the Delta Newspaper of New Orleans. Kentucky Newspapers were requested to carry the obituaries. Thomas J. Vanderslice, sr apparently died before 1865 as indicated in the obituary of Daniel Vanderslice. Both were probably casualties of the War Between the States.
