My mother was a Vanderslice, born in Phila 1904,the daughter of Lafayette W. Vanderslice. My grandfather was the son of John Vanderslice and had an older brother John, 2 sisters Florence and Mamie. All settled in the Phila area except Mamie who raiseda family in VA.
Family legend indicated the Dutch translation of VANDERSLICE is BY THE SLUICE to describe an infant abandoned in Holland near a sluice. I also was told that the Vanderslices are descended from a Dutchquaker who received aland grant from Wm Penn and emigrated to PA at the time of the Penn settlement there.
