I just started geneology. I just met another Van Orden and we are curious if we are related, since our families come from the same area. Someone in my dad's family has done a family tree but only a few Van Ordens appear in it. The most recent Van Orden I'm trying to start with is Harmen Wilson Van Orden. I know his offspring etc, but not much of those before him. He was apparently from Butler, was married to Margaret J. Havens. She died in 1964, think he died around same time. All I have so far on his father(?) is his name is William, was married to Josaphine Milner who died in 1912. William seems to be from Mariontown, whose father James ran a grocery store in Bloomingdale, top of a hill on Macopin Rd. Apparently William worked at papermill and excelsior factory, also on railroad laying gravel, and they were associated with Church of God. Family notes say William and Josaphine had two sons: William and Waldron (confusing me, I thought he was father of Harmen, maybe he's g.father?) I found cemetary records (from Stockholm Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetary, Sussex Co. NJ.) online and printed them out. There are several VanOrdens in it, but no Harmen. Goes too far back. Has a William but not one matching these names I have already, as far as I can tell. The records list several of the Havens people (and others) that match my family tree records, so I'm hoping there is a connection somehow with the Van Ordens listed in it. Did anything I mention sound familiar to anyone? I just don't know what to do next.
