Eddy says: "This is not nit picking - it is precision accuracy in professional genealogy research - something seldom practiced by researchers and probably never before encountered by yourself."
You were right on in your response to Eddy's above nonsense but allow me to carry it a step further.
1. The contradiction: "Precision accuracy in professional genealogy research" written by someone who is neither professional nor a researcher...in fact boasts of, and is proud of the fact, that he doesn't research and prefers to rely on "long after the fact" family statements rather than records and documents of the family in question, recorded during their lifetimes.Elderly people working from faded memory(they left Canada nearly 60 years before the affadavits were written, and couldn't even agree on the spelling of the last name) often make mistakes. Why would anyone hold such statements above real records is beyond me.
2. Since Eddy is neither a researcher, nor a professional, how would he know what constitutes "professional genealogy research"?And if it isn't pracyiced by professional genealogy researchers, then how can it be claimed to be a part of professional genealogy research?I am certain that everyone in the audience is thoroughly amused by Eddy's insistence that he is the one true expert, in the field he knows absolutely nothing about.
For you eddy:I have seen the result of Richard's meticulous work.He is very thorough and documents his efforts well.He is qualified to be referred to as a "Professional Genealogist".I do research for hire, and have developed many lines for which I have no family connection.By definiton, that makes me a "Professional Genealogist".You, sir, are neither a professional, nor a genealogist.Professional Genealogists, through research, use records to prove family lines.A DAR application contains no records. The simple fact that the DAR application is your sole source of information, and that you refuse to research, tells all who read this exchange everything they need to know about your (lack of) credibility.
