Doug wrote - Ed says: "Attempt to explain why Annetje Lawson did not show on the affidavits and DAR application if for 20 years she had been known as Annetje Lawson by Ferdinand Eastling as his grandmother."
Doug - That is easy. You have made reference to it before...the statement about Catharine Johnson being Cornelius' first wife. Annetje/Hannah Lawson certainly was known by Ferd and Fanny as their grandmother...because she was their grsndmother....
Gusman - Did you mean to write Annetje/Hannah Lawson or Catherine Johnson when you wrote - "Annetje/Hannah Lawson certainly was known by Ferd and Fanny as their grandmother...because she was their grsndmother...."
Gusman - assuming you ment to write - "Annetje/Hannah Lawson certainly was known by Ferd and Fanny as their grandmother...because she was their grsndmother...."
Gusman - My reply is in my following answers to your following statements:
Doug - 1. Fanny and Ferd didn't know their grandmother's maiden name(many people don't) and simply thought that "Hannah" was the nickname for a woman named Catharine Johnson, identified as Cornelius' wife by Violet's(flawed) research.
Gusman - You Doug are a work of art! - when it comes to iresponsible rationalizations and allegations.
Gusman -Are you telling us that Ferdineand at 20 years of age, and after living and or associating with his grandmother for 20 years, didn't know the first and last name of his grandmother? Are you telling us that Fanny at age 11 didn't know the first and last name of her grandmother. Do you have children of your own?
Richard - Your rationalizations are ludicrous. Then too you fail to take into account their grandfather Cornelius who would have referred to his wife during those 20 years by a nickname or as Catherine, Cathy or Kate, which is probably why in one of the Eastling letters her name is spelled Katherine with a K.
Doug wrote - 2. Fanny and Ferd knew Hannah Lawson as their grandmother, but weren't certain that Cornelius wasn't married before, or if Hannah truly was Maria's mother. Confused by the name, Catharine Johnson, that came from Violet's(flawed) research, they simply repeated the name provided them by Violet, despite the fact they had no personal knowledge of that person.
Doug wrote - The name Catharine Johnson appearing in the affadavits was a result of that name being provided to Fanny and Ferd by Violet Voorhees.
Gusman - Violetta would know from discussions with DAR chapter officers and DAR members that Violetta didn't require a spouses name for her veteran in order to receive membership apoval. When no spousal name was required why do you continue to believe that Violetta would later jeapordize her approved memberhip by inserting a fictiticous spouses name on her application, which could at a later time be discovered to be fraudulent,Would you like me to again write the DAR about membership requirements and post their response to this string?
Gusman - Both of your rationalizations are ludicrous. Your effort to rationalize the failure of the deponents to write the name of their grandmother Catherine Johnson into their affidavits because "Fanny and Ferd didn't know their grandmother's maiden name(many people don't) and simply thought that "Hannah" was the nickname for a woman named Catharine Johnson," - is without parallel in the demonstration of the lack of common sense.
Gusman - If Violetta and the deponents had known their grandmother as Hannah then Hannah would have been in the DAR application and affidavits. Whatever name you allege to have been the name known to the deponets is the name that Violetta would have known and whatever that name was is the name that would now appear on the application.
Gusman - You alleged Hannah is the grandmothers name. Why doesn't Hannah appear in the application? It was you who said Hannah was their grandmother. It follows that is the name known to Violetta. It follows Hannah is the name that should be in the affidavits.
Gusman - You have no way out. Whatever name you attempt to associate as the wife of Cornelius and grandmother of the deponents that is the name, be it Hannah, Annetje, or Thumper, that would now be on the affidavits. The presence of Catherine Johnson is telling everyone capable of reading English that the wife and grandmother was named Catherine Johnson.
