Hi! The first thing you need to do is get a hold of a copy of The Van Sickle Family in the United States, published 1880 by John W. Van Sickle of Springfield, OH.This is one of the most accurate (for the time) ways to link your VS to our earliest US ancestor, Fernandus Van Sicklen of New Netherland (Gravesend, NY today).
I know that the Ft. Wayne public library has a copy of this volume (but I don't think they do interlibrary loan).Otherwise ask your public library to do an OCLC search on this title to see where else it is held.
NOTE:this volume does not have an index! This means that you'll have to go through the whole bloody book looking for your ancestor. It is well worth it, imho.
BUT, if you can't do this, try going through the census records; bible records; church records (it really helps if you know what religion he was.)
Good luck! Georgiana Van Syckle firstname.lastname@example.org
