Doing a little browsing today and thought I would finally reply to D.G. Van Curen in depth.
Mr.Van Curen stated in his preceding posting about my comments - "He (Ed Gusman)also failed to mention that Records from both Dutchess County New York and Brighton Canada prove that Maria's mother is Hannah Lawson." Unquote.
What records would that be D.G. The Fishkill Church handwritten Baptismal record page 198, (New York - Dutchess - Fishkill Church Records L.D.S Microfilm 0017636) shows that the parents of Maria Van Sicklen are Cornelius F.V. Sicklen & Annetje Lossing. How could records from Brighton Canada prove Hannah Lawson was the birth mother of Maria born to Annetje Lossing recorded on the Fishkill Church record unless the Canadian record was a birth record which contained Hannah Lawson as the birth mother's name. That same Fishkill record also shows NO BAPTISMAL DATE for Maria. Having a bit of a problem making up your mind who the mother of Maria Van Sicklen really is/was?? Van ole boy!
On page 198 immediately above Cornelius F. V Sicklen & Annetje Lossing are parents for another child with the parents named Mathew P. Lossing & Margaret Lossing. Where are the records that would authenticate your tampering with the name Annetje Lossing by changing it to Hannah Lawson - you change Annetje Lossing to Hannah Lawson, you had better be prepared to produce authenticated documents showing a change of Mathew P. Lossing to Mathew P. Lawson because the Fishkill church record makes it appear that Annetje Lossing is a descendent of the same nuclear family bloodline as the couple named Mathew and Annetje Lossing, who are either siblings or at least cousins of Annetje Lossing......
You didn't hesitate and without authenticated proof changed Cornelius VAN SICLEN to Cornelius Van Sicklen, changed CATHERINE JOHNSON TO Hannah Lawson,Changed a marriage date from 1814 to 1824 - why bother with validated evidence prior to replacing Maria's birth mother's maiden name, Annetje Lossing, with Hannah Lawson.
