Cuban branch of the Van Tassel family
My grandfather was Matthew Van Tassel b. 1820 in Tarrytown. As a young man he worked in Cuba and in 1843 married a Cuban lady named Mary Monstable b. 1820 and they had 3 children all were born in Cuba and lived there all their lives. Sara, Charles and America b. 1853 -she married Jose Antonio Moreno who for a time was a professor in a college at Malanzas, Cuba. After her death in 1857 Matthew returned from Cuba to the United States and settled in Brooklyn and in 1862 married my grandmother, Mary A Woodruff b 1830.
Not long after Castro came into power in early 1959 people in Cuba became apprehensive about their future. My mother tried to help her Cuban family members. She sponsored a boy named Joe Moreno to come and live with her while he finished school. He remained with her for 2 years and they became very close. I’m sure that she told me that Joe was the great-great-grandson of America and Jose Antonio Moreno.
Does anyone have information about this Cuban branch of the Van Tassel family?
