In trying to piece together my GRIFFITH family connections, I have come across an Elisha Vanzandt. The estate of Jonas Griffith, Jr., of Jackson County, Tennessee was found to be insolvent, and his heirs were forced to relinquish their shares of his estate to pay the debts. The original complaint included Elisha "Vinzant", husband of Sarah M. Griffith (daughter of deceased), of Jackson County, Tennessee.A subsequent filing stated that Sarah was widowed and living in Missouri, but that seems to be incorrect, unless this was an additional filing made years later - see possible 1860 census match below.Elisha and Sarah Vanzandt signed a deed on 21 April 1849 assigning their share of the estate to Sam E. Hare.
Following the loss of the family homestead in Jackson County, most (if not all) of Jonas's family moved to neighboring Macon County, where they were found in the 1850 census. It would appear that Elisha and Sarah had three children, named Jonas H., Parazetta, and Mary J.Also in the household was a 22 year old John Vanzandt, possibly a younger brother or cousin to Elisha.I have not found anything positive on this family after the 1850 census.
If anyone would have additional information on what became of Elisha, Sarah, and their family, I would appreciate it.

I know that some of the Griffith family had moved into Illinois over a period of years. Some went as far as Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas.I also know that members of the Griffith family had married into the Lock family, and some of those Locks were found in Barry County, Missouri.I came across this entry that might be Sarah as a widow, with a daughter born possibly in Illinois - the state was hard to make out, but looked like Ill. to me.Mariah was a common name in the Griffith family, including Sarah's sister.
