Might you have discovered a "Garrett VanZant"from your family research. This is why I ask.
We are researching our family, the Stevens/Stephens who have or were of Markham, Pickering, Uxbridge and Stoufville areas of Ontario Canada after they removed from the State of New York...many stayed in Canada, others came to Sanilac Co, Michigan in the late 1830's, others came later in the 1840/1850's.
In researching within the land records at Sanilac County MI we came across one of our relatives Chauncey F. Stevens (b.1817) who was "formerly of Canada West" (he lived at Stouffville earlier and then went back to Stouffville where he died in the early 1870's)...Chauncy sold land in Sanilac County MI to Garrett A or R VanZant (both of these middle initials appear in the document, so not sure which is correct, if either) and Garrett was listed as being of Stoufville,Ontario Canada West. Witnesses to this land sale was a Mary Graves, another was Levi L. Wixson. We don't know who Mary Graves was nor Garrett...but with Chauncy F. Stevens being from Stoufville, we suspect they may be related in some fashion...but we do know that he/Garrett didn't marry any of Chauncy's daughters.Chauncey's wife was, by birth, Susan Brown.
Does any of these names sound familiar from any of your VanZant research?
Thanks, and we look forward to hearing from you! Michelle Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
