My trip to Boston was not 100% successful.I got a few leads, and will have to go back to pull deeds and wills from Rochester, NH
What we know for sure is Enos came to Washington, Co. ME from Rochester, NH.That fact is recorded in the document you linked here, and on several of the death certificates of is children who died in MA.
First I check census records on Ancestry, for James's and Elijah's in Rochester. There is an Elijah there in 1776....(I did not think to look for others...can you, I see you have an account)..Elijah does not appear on the 1790 census or the 1820 census, but he does appear in the 1810 census. There is a James in the 1790, & 1800....(I did not think to check 1810 or 1820).I also jotted down all the Rochester Varney's in the 1790 census and 1800 census,I'll cross reference them with each other.
Then I checked "Genealogy of some of the Descendents of William Varney of Ipswich"they has Elisha & Anna (Hayes) Varney in it (and it matches the Hayes genealogy), but not James & Mary (Cushing) Varney.(Other then the Cushing Genealogy, I have not found any thing on this couple, but it is interesting to note, they were from Dover. )
I also checked books on Rochester to see if they had any info....nothing new.
I looked at the MOCA films for burials in Pembroke. There are a few Varney's there....but not our direct ancestors.I know I have a note one of the Varneys's is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery....perhaps there is no head stone.
So thats about it...I'll have to go back...I just don't know when.
(I'll post my notes on Elijah in another post) Laurie
