Dear Wanda,I can only hope that you check this site once in a while for updates to your request. My brother and I have been attempting to locate our father for years!Your reference to Guy Vassar born 1897 (if I recall correctly) could be related to our grandfather (Melvin who died at the age of 86 (1/1950) in Chicago, IL.(Wait, that means he was born in 1864)He had been in Chicago 3 years prior to his death. He was born in Kentucky and was a farmer and carpenter. He rented farms in Arkansas. His wife's name was Anna and was 60 years old in May 1952 (would make her birthdate around 1892).At that time (5/52) she was living in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. She was born in Arkansas but I do not have a maiden name. She attended a Baptist church.Melvin and Anna had no other marriages. They had three boys and three girls with ages all as of 5/1952:Ocie, 39 and a welder in Chicago; Alice Silerman, 36 in Chicago; Minnie Miller 33 in Rhinelander, Kansas (I question if this should be Wisconsin), her husband was a mill employee; Hazel Wright 28 address and occupation unknown. Our dad, Virgil Guy Vassar, was born September 12, 1920 in Carlisle, Arkansas. He was in the Army from 8/12/42 to 6/1/43.He spent time in the early 1950's in Chicago.
This is interesting because I have found no other references to the name "Guy" and the association with Arkansas. Also interesting because of the names of his three children... Dave Richard, Michael, and a Donna. All very familiar Vassar names and not even close to anything in our maternal family.
Sorry this is so long, but if you, or anyone, has any information, we would sure appreciate it.My brother has a medical situation where we need to get any family information possible.Thanks.
