Dear Vassars: I am writing on behalf of my father, Robert Burrichter (birth name Donati Oscar Vassar). He was born August 3, 1938 in the Iron Range of northern Minnesota, the youngest of several children born to Amelia Vassar. The family was Catholic and possibly German. He was taken against his mother's will by the state and was raised by a foster family in Northern Minnesota before being moved by the state at age 7 to an orphanage in St. Paul, where he was eventually adopted by the Burrichter family.
I wonder if anyone reading this is related to or knows of the Vassars who are my father's birth family. All my life he had been hesitant to meet his birth family, but now he is open to discovering who they are and possibly making a connection if the Vassars are similarly interested. I and my two sisters are similarly interested in learning about half of our heritage, which has always been a mystery.
If any part of my father's story rings a bell, I would be very grateful if you would respond to my inquiry. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. If you wish to forward this to other family members, please do. My personal e-mail address is firstname.lastname@example.org. Becky Burrichter
