Was very interested in your query re the Jones/Verdin marriage. My connection with William Jones is through his daughter, Sarah Jones, who married Baley Chaney sometime in the 1770's.Baley's family was in VA in the 1730's, moved to NC by 1750 and to the 96 District of SC by the beginnning of the Rev. War.
It seems the surname Varden often appeared as Darden.A John Darden was granted land on Rocky Comfort. Wilkes Co. GA on 17 August 1786.Turner Persons/Parsons witnessed the sale of a slave from James Colton to Sterling Jones, William's son, on on 4 March 1799.One Jones Persons sold land to Joseph Howard in a deed dated 31 December 1805.This property consisted of 150 acres on Rocky Comfort, fifty acres of which were originally granted to John Verdin (sic). You may already have this information. The other daughter mentioned in William's will was married to a Harper, and these families intermarried on down into LA in the early 1800's.
It appears we may also have two other lines in common: Hamilton and Peeler. My immigrant ancestor was Robert Hamilton from Ulster, Northern Ireland, who arrived in PA just before the beginning of the War.My Peeler line is through Anthony Peeler of NC.My branch later migrated from NC to Jasper Co., GA, but there is no connection between these two families.
I am most interested in William Jones and his wife and where they lived prior to GA.If you are interested in exchanging Jones information, you may contact me direct. My e-mail address is:email@example.com.
